Students aged 7 to 11 would be enrolled to our Junior Learning Centre (Level 1 to Level 5).

Prior to enrollment, potential students are tested diagnostically using the ACE program. The purpose of the diagnostic test is to determine current academic ability and clearly identify any learning gaps within all subjects, primarily in Maths and English. For example, a child’s English grammar may be above his/her grade level. However, their punctuation skills may be below grade level. The child is then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own performance levels determined by the results of the diagnostic tests. Furthermore, the learning gaps are addressed and discussed with the parents to ensure the child has adequate academic support from both the school and home.

The ACE curriculum has 6 PACE’s in total for students complete every week: Maths, English, Science, Social Studies, Word Building (spelling) and Literature & Creative Writing. In addition to PACE work, students participate in Extra-Curricular Activities.

Each curriculum course consists of 12 PACE’s per level. Normally, each student completes a minimum of 70 PACE’s in one academic year. However, this varies according to the student’s abilities. Students are supported to keep academic balance in the subjects in which they are working and complete about the same number of PACE’s in each subject. Students who are more skilled may progress at a faster rate or may accelerate in the areas of their academic strengths. Slower students are encouraged to do their best, but are able to work on their levels of proficiency and proceed as they are capable. (Note: The core curriculum is enhanced with DVDs, videos, and computer software).
